  • Easter Pause Day 2016

    Thu 24 Mar 2016
    What is a ‘Pause Day’?

Pause Days are an exciting initiative from the Schools department of Guildford Diocese Education Centre. They give schools an opportunity to engage with some high level thinking and reflection during an ‘off-timetable’ RE day, which also contributes to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development. Although there will be some significant links with the Diocesan Guidelines for RE, these Pause Day resources are not intended to replace the statutory RE units, but to provide ‘space’ to enhance and deepen pupils’ understanding.

Easter Pause Day at St Mark's on Maundy Thursday 2016

On Maundy Thursday, the children arrived to school with a difference, no school bags were required. The day had been carefully planned to help the children connect with the events of the first Easter through learning experiences.  In addition the hall became a 'prayer space' with rich opportunities or the children to reflect and pray.

The school day ended with a wonderful service led by the children of Year 3/4 held at St Mark's Church, where we were joined by parents and families.

Take a look at the photographs from this very special day.

  • Easter Bonnet Parade 2016

    Wed 23 Mar 2016

On Wednesday 23rd March, we were blessed with good weather for the St Mark’s Easter bonnet parade. Parents and families (and passers-by on the High Street) gathered to watch the magnificent creations paraded around the playground to the sound of claps and cheers!

Mrs Miles had the extremely difficult job of judging and after much deliberation, chose one winner and 3 runners-up.

Well done to all the children for their fantastic Easter Bonnets and Congratulations to our winners and runners- up!

Take a look below at the fun had by all.

  • Year 1 & 2 attend 'Another Disney Story'

Thu 03 Mar 2016 Mrs Stocchetti

    Another Disney Story

Last month Year 1/2 received a very special invitation from the Performing Arts Department at Farnborough College of Technology to see 'Another Disney Story'. Of course we gladly accepted and walked to the college on Monday 4th March full of anticipation to see the show and we were not disappointed! On our arrival we were greeted by fairies waving their wands...

The show was packed with the children's favourite characters from Frozen to the classic's Snow White and the children watched in delight as the students performed a fascinating, exciting story, including songs, dances and lots of audience participation!

Afterwards the Characters (cast) came to speak to the children and Elsa and Anna from Frozen escorted us to the gate when we left!

The children talked about it all the way back to school and are now preparing to write letters to their favourite characters! Take a look at the photographs below...

  • Year 5/6 - Verbatim Cantata

    Tue 01 Mar 2016

    Verbatim Cantata - 1st March 2016

In September, the children in Year 5/6 started working with Michael Betteridge, a composer, who was planning to attempt a first ever Verbatim Cantata composition. After 6 months of hard work it all finally came together and St Mark's performed with two other local primary schools alongside the Hampshire youth orchestra and choir at the Princes Hall in Aldershot.

Below  is a quote from Kevin Rogers, County Inspector, Hampshire Music Services commending the children on their impeccable behaviour and participation:

"your pupils were an absolute credit to your school. Their behaviour throughout a long and potentially trying day was impeccable: at events like this, I normally expect to offer at least one frown or quizzical look to pupils who are not quite there . . . but all I did yesterday was smile, encourage and say thank you. Brilliant!"
