  • Pause Day 2018

    Thu 29 Mar 2018
    What is a ‘Pause Day’?

Pause Days are an exciting initiative from the Schools department of Guildford Diocese Education Centre. They give schools an opportunity to engage with some high level thinking and reflection during an ‘off-timetable’ RE day, which also contributes to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development. Although there will be some significant links with the Diocesan Guidelines for RE, these Pause Day resources are not intended to replace the statutory RE units, but to provide ‘space’ to enhance and deepen pupils’ understanding.

Easter Pause Day at St Mark's on Maundy Thursday 2018

On Maundy Thursday, the children arrived to school with a difference, no school bags were required. The day had been carefully planned to help the children connect with the events of the first Easter through learning experiences.  In addition the hall became a 'prayer space' with rich opportunities or the children to reflect or pray.

The school afternoon started with with a Flower workshop at the church to create fabulous flower collages to be presented on Easter day. The day ended with a thoughtful service led by the children of Year 3/4 held at St Mark's Church, where we were joined by parents and families.

Take a look at the photographs from this very special day.

  • Governors Special Award - Spring 2018

    Fri 16 Mar 2018

During our World Book Day Celebration (which involved the children coming in to school wearing their Pyjamas to encourage children to 'snuggle up with a good book') two of our Governors, Mr Bonnett and Mrs Gifford, awarded one infant and one junior with the very special 'Governors' Award' medals.

These are pupils who are selected from anonymous nominations from the staff for excellence in all areas and/or success in their personal achievements.

Huge Congratulations to both pupils -the awards were very well deserved!

  • Wintershall visit St Mark's

    Wed 14 Mar 2018

We were truly blessed - yet again - to enjoy another visit from the Wintershall team on Wednesday 14th March, who brought some of the stories from the Bible to ‘life’ during our worship.

George and Paul from the Wintershall team commented on how wonderful our school was saying - "You have a wonderful school here, with a real family feel".

Our thanks to the team for visiting us and inspiring us with their impressive acting. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Road Safety Assembly

    Mon 12 Mar 2018

Two of our wonderful Yr5/6 planned and led an amazing assembly this morning, delivering an extremely important road safety message for the whole school. The children were all measured against a height chart when they arrived in the hall and then it was revealed at what stages various car seats should be used. Well done girls - you inspired the rest of the school to stay safe around cars and roads.

  • World Book Day 2018

Fri 09 Mar 2018 Mrs Hagan

World Book Day came to St Marks

For World Book Day, the children of St Mark's, came to school dressed in their pyjamas - along with slippers, dressing gowns, teddy bears, blankets and an exciting range of interesting onesies!

In the afternoon, our amazing teachers (who were also dressed in pyjamas and onesies) gave us the opportunity to snuggle up and read stories from a variety of authors. However, it was not a random selection of authors. Our teachers had been very clever! The authors were selected for our school houses: Blyton, Dahl, Milne and Potter.

This day was by far one of the best days so far (and extremely warm and cosy!)

    Thank you teachers!

  • Year 5 trip to Farnborough Hill Show 'Anything Goes'

    Wed 07 Mar 2018

On Wednesday 7th March, Mrs Stocchetti took all of Year 5 to see the latest production,

‘Anything Goes', performed by the students at Farnbrough Hill School.

Year 5 were 'eyes glued' to the stage as the girls delivered an outstanding performance which we all thoroughly enjoyed.

This is what a few of our Year 5 children loved about it:

"I was SO impressed that they all stayed in character the whole time. I was watching as they left the stage and they were in character until we couldn't see them - that was brilliant!"

"I loved the character Reno, her singing and dancing was brilliant and her costumes were so pretty!"

"The orchestra were amazing - I really enjoyed watching the instruments being played live and the double bass was HUGE!!"

" I loved the whole thing - it was like going to a real theatre. We are very lucky to have been invited to something so amazing."

A HUGE thank you to the cast, back stage crew, orchestra and staff of

    Farnborough Hill.

  • Update on School Closure

Thu 01 Mar 2018 Mrs Stocchetti

School will be CLOSED on Friday 2nd March due to severe weather.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

The met office continue to issue an amber/yellow weather warning for the area and surrounding areas from which staff are travelling from on Friday 2nd March.

There is a high risk of further snow showers and longer spells of snow throughout the day on Friday.  We have taken into account the warnings of icy stretches that are likely on untreated surfaces and strong winds leading to the blowing around of existing snow cover. Therefore we have taken the difficult decision to CLOSE the school on Friday 2nd March. However, we will endeavour to reopen the school as soon as possible and hope that we can operate as usual on Monday. We consider the safety of all of our pupils, parents and staff to be paramount.

We will, of course, keep you updated and thank all our families for your understanding.

There will be learning placed on the school website for your children. Please visit the Emergency Closure section and select your year group for 'School Closure' learning.

    Kind Regards,

    Mrs Stocchetti

    Headteacher
