  • Infants production of 'Stella the Startfish'

    Wed 28 Jun 2017

This week the whole of the school was submerged into the wonder of a magical underwater tale with an important message about being helpful to others. The Infants performance of ‘Stella the Starfish’ told the story of how Stella the starfish is found, lost and alone, at the bottom of Sophie & Stephen's aquarium. When the children agree to help reunite Stella with her family, they are transported into the ocean by a magic conch shell. They seek the advice of the colourful sea creatures, but none are able or willing to help. Eventually they arrive at the mouth of Sid the shark's cave, hoping he will be able to help them. Mysterious Sid sings them a riddle but then promptly disappears. Stella and the children follow Sid's instructions and are eventually able to find Stella's lost family.

Well done to you all, an outstanding performance that captured the hearts of us all!

  • Year 6 Leavers service at Guidford Cathedral

    Tue 27 Jun 2017

On Tuesday 27th June, Year 6 attended their Leavers Service at Guildford Cathedral. They enjoyed a fabulous afternoon alongside hundreds other Year Six children from Guildford Diocese church schools. We were entertained with wonderful singing and some exceptional, reflective workshops which helped the children reflect on their time at primary school. The service was led by Bishop Andrew and The Director of Education, Michael Hall. The Very Revd Dianna Gwillliams, Dean of Guildford welcomed the children and the staff of the Diocese Education centre and Cathedral ensured all the children had an afternoon to cherish.

Our children were wonderful; they were praised by everyone who worked with them. Our standard was carried with pride and one of our pupils read the most heat-warming reading about her time in Primary school that brought tears to our eyes. Well done Year 6!

  • Summer Term Governors Award

    Mon 26 Jun 2017

On Monday 26th June we welcomed two of our school Governors, Mrs Corps and Mrs Bates, to our Monday morning worship, who came to present the Summer term award for their final 'Governor's Special Award' of this academic year.

This is a highly prestigious award and is presented for demonstrating exceptional effort and always displaying the school CIRCLE values!

The award was presented to one infant pupil and one junior. Congratulations children - well deserved!

  • Year 4 visit to Wintershall

    Fri 23 Jun 2017

On Friday 23rd June Year 4 were blessed with good weather as they set off to the Wintershall Estate to see 'The Life of Christ'. When they arrived they were guided into the beautiful grounds to prepare for Act I, and it was clear that, as last year, they were all deeply moved by the spiritual atmosphere that they were about to be part of for the day.

The cast of over 200 brought to life the characters and the story and the children even became part of the 5000 that Jesus fed and were given bread after He performed this miracle.

The children had a wonderful day and were touched by the kindness of the cast and the actor who played 'Jesus' at end of the performance, who spent quality time with our children who wanted to speak to him and ask questions.

Another fabulous experience that the children and staff will cherish.

  • Reading Workshop

    Wed 14 Jun 2017

At St Mark’s we have a passion for reading and, as part of promoting a love of reading for our children, we are offering an opportunity for parents to attend a workshop which will help you with how to support your child with reading at home. Encouraging children to dive head first into stories, get excited discussing about poetry and exploring and discovering the world through newspapers and information books is just another step in our journey to foster a love of reading for all children here at St Mark’s.

Thank you to all those who came and supported the evening!

"Very informative, will definitely be using the techniques."

    "Very helpful and interesting!"

"Great evening, loads of tips, very helpful, thanks!"

  • Books We Love Gallery

    Wed 14 Jun 2017

    Books We Love Gallery

As part of promoting a love of reading for our children, we invited parents, carers and grandparents to join us in a book gallery afternoon in the school hall! It was a chance for parents, carers and grandparents to share their favourite story, poem or book from their childhood with the children of St Mark’s School and inspire the children to pick up a book!

It was a great success, loved by the children (some of whom asked if they could come and carry on reading the books the next day!)

"I was inspired to read Mrs Watson's poetry book; it made me feel happy because it was funny!" (Willa Rose, Year 1)

"It enjoyed it because I can read the books which I haven't read before" (Samuel, Year 2)

  • Year 5/6 Aviation art on display in the community!

    Fri 09 Jun 2017

St Mark's School were approached by Wates Construction in May to see if the Year 5/6 children would like to take part in a special ‘hoarding art’ project. The artwork would go on display on the hoarding whilst behind the scenes, the new exhibition and conference centre would start to be built!

Last week, the artwork finally went up on display and the Wates team visited the school on Friday 9th June to say thank you to all the Year 5/6 children who participated, in the form of a fabulous gift bag for every child. The team also selected a winner from the 29 entries and, with the help of their Wates 'friends', presented a prize to….Ethan. Well done to all the children and Ethan for their outstanding artwork.

If you want to see the artwork on display take a look below or take a drive past the construction site!
