Gongoozling
Gongoozling
For our last half-term, our 'gongoozling' project will aim to consolidate lots of our learning from throughout the year.
Science
In science, we will explore forces – thinking about how forces affect us in our everyday lives – and living things and their habitats.
Geography
In geography, we will revisit grid references, map keys and data interpretation as we continue our journey around the world. Having previously looked at comparing countries with similar climate we will now try to spot the patterns that could have led to these similarities ...
History
History will tie together our other units by seeing how each historical event had a global impact.
Art
In art, we will experiment with tone and shade.
Here the class learnt about colour theory and colour wheels. They experimented with different layering and toning techniques on their wheels before shading in a map from our class story book. Combining the new layering skills and previously learnt skills of types of mark making produced some lovely results.
RE and PSHE
As we move into the final half-term at St Mark's, we think about the transitions our year 5s and 6s are about to go through; moving into year 6 and secondary school. Through our RE and PSHE curriculums we discuss worries, excitements and how St Mark's has given them tools for moving on.
One of our most looked forward to events is the Year 6s visit to Guildford Cathedral for the Diosis Leaving Service. We join with multiple other faith schools to complete reflective activities and say goodbye to their primary school years.

As well as this, we visited the amazing Wintershall to watch 'Life of Christ' performance. Not only was this a fantastic way to promote the Christian values of our school, but it also sparked many discussions between the children about struggles, beliefs and knowing when to trust the path you are on.
