Mad, bad or misunderstood

Were the Vikings Mad, Bad, or Misunderstood? πŸ›‘οΈβš”οΈ

This half term in our classroom, the children have been delving deep into the intriguing world of the Vikings! 🌊 They’ve been exploring their customs, beliefs, and even the notorious raids that have coloured their history. But the question remains: were these seafaring warriors truly mad, bad, or simply misunderstood? πŸ€”

Through engaging discussions, creative projects, and hands-on activities, our students have examined historical accounts and debated the Vikings' legacy. Are they the brute invaders depicted in popular culture, or are they misunderstood explorers and traders who shaped a significant part of history?

Discovering Viking Flavours in D&T! πŸ›ΆπŸ₯˜

This week in Design & Technology, our young historians embarked on an exciting gastronomic journey back to the time of the Vikings! 🌿✨ Under the expert guidance of Mrs Bhela, the children delved into research about the varied diets of these incredible seafarers, exploring what they would have eaten depending on the season.

From hearty stews to freshly caught fish, the children learned that Viking meals were heavily influenced by their environment and the availability of ingredients. They used this knowledge to design and create their very own Viking-inspired dishes, showcasing not only their cooking skills but also their creativity! 🎨🍽️

As part of this hands-on experience, Mrs Bhela introduced a delightful twist—making their own butter! 🧈 The pupils had a wonderful time shaking creamy milk into creamy butter, realising just how much effort went into creating the simplest of foods. This engaging activity allowed our students to appreciate the connection between food, history, and craftsmanship!

But the highlight of the day? Our Viking-inspired feast! 🍽️✨ Students sampled an array of delicious dishes inspired by ancient recipes. From hearty soup to freshly baked bread, the flavours transported us back in time. After the meal, our students took part in a lively evaluation, discussing what they loved most and what they might tweak for next time.

This immersive experience not only deepened our understanding of Viking heritage but also fostered teamwork and creativity among our pupils. We are so proud of their enthusiasm and engagement!
