The Art of Being Human
Exploring the Art of Being Human
Looking through science, art, DT, religion and spirituality – Diamond Class will be challenged to think critically about what makes us all 'human'.
Design & Technology
Within this project, our DT unit will be exploring how food and harvest have evolved throughout the history of humanity. We will explore what expression through food means to humanity in the present as well as the origin of food celebrations such as the Harvest Festival.
For the end of this learning sequence the children will design and bake their own bread recipes. These recipes will consolidate their learning of bread-making techniques, nutritional advice, design processes and hygenic food preparation.
Science
Our science unit will explore the scientific elements of humanity and the human circulatory system. The children will learn about how all organs play a part in the circulation of our blood; how blood cells become oxygenated and de-oxygenated; which cells make up human blood and how they work together to keep us healthy. As well as this, we will complete a poster project on healthy lifestyles as the children research how foods, exercise, sleep and devices can have an affect.
Art
Our art project within this project revolves around sculpture and ceramics. The children will research, design and create a clay heart that encompasses appropriate ceramic techniques (pinching, scoring, smoothing and using slip) to create a scientific model of a human heart.
