Welcome to Sapphire Class 2025- 2026
Key Information:
PE days are on Tuesday and Thursday.
Year 3/4 weekly homework
Homework will include:
- Spellings on Ed Shed, these should be played 'little and often' throughout the week. Mrs Hagan will award 'dojos' based on how many times the games have been played in the week.
- Maths: a Maths activity will be provided on My Maths
-Reading: reading should be completed at least 5 times per week. Reading books and reading records must come to school on a Monday and Friday to be checked/ changed - including free readers!
The children should be able to access their homework as independently as possible, with some guidance or support. If you have any problems with the homework set, please talk to the teachers.
Reading records need to be in school everyday and will be checked every Thursday. It is expected to have 5 adult signatures a week.
Times Table Practise please practise times tables with your child regularly. Little and often is the best way! There are some excellent online games and apps which we will add to the useful links section.
Project Home Learning
As a school we set the children an extended piece of home learning linked to our project. This is an opportunity for the family to work together on something and you will always have a few weeks to complete this, ready for our outcomes.
Spring 2 2026
World Book Day
We celebrated World Book Day 2026 by dressing up as our favourite book character or wearing our pyjamas to school! We took part in the BBC World Book Day live lesson as well as going on a book scavenger hunt and we created World Book Day token designs as part of the World Book Day competition.
Our Roman Exhibition
We showcased our work from our Spring 1 topic 'The Road from Rome' to our parents and carers at our recent Roman Exhibition. Our Pompeii newspaper reports, which we wrote in our English lessons, our Boudica posters and speeches, which we created in History, our 'Roman Life' pop up books which we designed and created in DT lessons and our Roman Aqueducts were all on display to read, listen to and interact with.
Geography: Extreme Earth!
This half term the children in Sapphire class will be learning about what is beneath the Earth's surface, how volcanoes are formed, what happens when and why they erupt and what is it like to live near a volcano. Throughout this, they will explore how to use atlases, locating famous volcanos and identifying the countries they are in as well as exploring physical features of the Earth.
For our first lesson, learnt about the different layers of the Earth and constructed our own cross section models to show the different layers of the Earth!
Spring 1 2026
The Road from Rome
This half term the children have been learning all about the Romans in Britain. This week, we have been exploring the incredible infrastructure that the Romans brought with them to Britain. We have looked at Roman roads, explored the function of amphitheatres and even made our own aqueducts - how did the Romans manage it all without modern technology? We were amazed!
Autumn 2
This term our writing journey is inspired by The Barnabus Project by The Fan Brothers. Our writing outcome will be an information page about our own 'failed pet project' and how to look after them. After lots of discussions about how nobody is 'perfect' and everyone should be accepted for who they are, the children designed their own 'failed pets' to be sold, looked after and loved. First, we took part in a draw along to learn how to draw a 'mash up' animal with one of the Fan brothers them selves! Then, we used that inspiration to design our own pets.
Autumn 1 - 2025
For our first writing journey of the year, we were learning to write instructions. We made robot hands and then wrote instructions to teach someone else to make one!
This term in science, we are learning about forces and magnets. Today, we have been investigating if the biggest magnets are always the strongest... what is your prediction?
