Worship at St Mark's School 2025-2026
As the new academic year starts in 2025, we are excited to begin school collective worship and to include worship in church. These are precious moments together as a school community. We hold whole school collective worship, key stage worship and class reflections with teachers and know that all styles of worship presents opportunities for pupils and staff to get to know one another in new ways.
Summer Term 2026:
We gather together for collective worship that is inspiring, invitational and inclusive, reflecting the fact that we are a part of a diverse school family and the wider church community. As human beings, we have storytelling in our DNA, and so for this final term of the school year, we offer some stories from across the world that help us to think about ‘ourselves, others, beauty and/or beyond’, and wonder together at the power of a story to help connect us and change us.
We start our term using a number of parables told by Jesus (mostly from Matthew 13), featuring some images from different parts of the world to highlight the universal power of these stories to help us to think and to shape our behaviour. Later in the term, we will continue with a collection of traditional stories from across the world that also have messages that may help to shape the way we behave; whilst these may come from different cultures and traditions, these are always presented in a way that shows their deep connections with ideas from the Bible. And finally, we return to a final parable in the last week of term.
Spring Term 2026:
We begin this new term, and 2026, with a new story-saga theme, based on the story of Daniel and how his actions stood out in the challenging times in which he lived. Whilst we recognise that all these stories contain difficult themes, and might imply that standing up for your beliefs could mean certain death, we take the positive messages from each story in how Daniel and his friends were such a contrast to the leaders they served, and indeed shone like stars (Daniel 12:3). In our world today, we want to inspire resilience in our pupils, to be confident in who they are and what they stand for, just like Daniel, and to be positive role models in your school community, even when it might be difficult.
We link this in the 2nd half of term with some stories of some equally radical people from history who also ‘shone like stars’, using materials from the book, ‘Heroes of Hope’.
We finish with Easter and think what this meant for Jesus in the journey to the Cross.
Autumn Term 2025:
Building firm foundations (Matthew 7 v24-27)
This term the focus for our collective worship is “Building firm foundations” based on the parable of the wise and foolish builders Matthew 7 v24-27. Our VISION for St Mark’s built on the idea of providing firm foundations for all our children, this parable shows our CIRCLE values in action. This term we will be exploring each value and how it is demonstrated in the parable, we will then go on to look at how our values can be seen and used in different ways as we explore being a global citizen.
